It’s All About Me!
· Exploration of Self – Student should assess interests, skills, and goals through self-reflection. o Create Resume · Personal Goals Assessment – Parents/counselor should discuss career options for college graduates and explains how interests and aptitudes relate to career goals. · The Value of Education – Parents/Counselor should discuss the value of education in terms of lifestyle and earning potential. o The ACT PLAN (practice ACT) will be taken in October as a sophomore. · Creating a Personal Support Network – Students should understand how to gain support and career plans · The High School Experience – Develop strategies for making the most of the high school experience. In 9th grade some grades are forgiven due to the transition into high school however in 10th grade the grades count. · What’s My Style? – Parents/Counselor should discuss the importance of personal learning and working styles. · Exploring Careers and Majors – Student, should understand the process of self-discovery to lifestyle choices and career satisfaction. · The College Choice – Students need to place emphasis on the diversity of college options and how they impact career decisions. o Attend College fairs – www.nacac.com/fairs · Getting Into College – Develop an understanding of the college application process · Paying for College – Family should create the budget for college costs and Parents should and research options for financial aid.
