Senior Year:
· September
o Identify if you need to retake the ACT, SAT I, and SAT II, and register for test as necessary based on your college choice.
o Check with your school counselor for the fall visiting schedule of college reps.
o Ask appropriate teachers if they would write recommendations for you (don’t forget to write thank-you letters when they accept).
o Meet with your counselor to compile your final list of colleges.
· October
o Mail or send early applications electronically after carefully checking them to be sure they are neat and completely filled out.
o Photocopy or print extra copies of your application to use as a backup.
o Take the tests for which you have registered.
o Don’t be late! Keep track of all deadlines for transcripts, recommendations, etc.
· November
o Be sure that you have requested that your ACT and SAT scores be sent to your colleges of choice.o Complete and submit all applications.
o Print or photocopy an extra copy for your records.
· December
o Take any necessary ACT, SAT I, or SAT II tests.
o Meet with your counselor to verify that all is in order and that transcripts are out to colleges.
· January
o Prepare the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.ed.gov or through your school counseling office. An estimated income tax statement (which can be corrected later) can be used. The sooner you apply for financial aid, the better your chances.
· February
o Send in your FAFSA via the web or US mail. Be sure your mid year report has gone out to the college to which you’ve applied.
o Let your colleges know of any new honors or accomplishments that were not in your original application.
· March
o Register for any Advanced Placement (AP) tests you might take.
o Be sure you have received a FAFSA acknowledgment.
· April
o Create a folder to keep your acceptance letters together.
o Create an excel spreadsheet to capture all pertinent info regarding, your college acceptance. Be sure to include scholarship and financial aid information.
· May
o Narrow your list to top 3 schools.
o Select your dream school.
· June
o Graduate.
o Attend Summer Program at your selected college to get early start.
